New York Traffic Violations Lawyer

New York Traffic Ticket Defense Lawyer

Almost everyone considers a traffic violation to be a minor issue. The standard response upon receiving a speeding ticket or some other traffic ticket is to simply mail in payment for the fine. That is the quickest way to put it out of your mind. However, drivers in New York need to be aware of the impact that a ticket can have on their ability to continue to drive and maintain the lowest possible insurance rates

In New York, when drivers accumulate 11 points or more within an 18 month period, they are subject to the suspension of their driving privileges. If one is convicted of 3 speeding summonses/misdemeanors received within 18 months, their New York license will be revoked for a minimum of 6 months. Being proactive by fighting all moving violations rather than paying them will improve your chances of not having to suffer the consequences of having your driver's license suspended or revoked. For example, if you currently have six points on your driver's license, one more violation of equal point value in the next 18 months will result in the suspension of your driver's license.

Driver Responsibility Assessment Program

In addition to the hardship created by a license suspension, accumulation of six or more points on your license in an 18 month period will result in a $300 fee for the first six points and $75 for each additional point. If you are convicted of an alcohol or drug-related offense or refused to take a chemical test, you will be forced to pay a Drivers Responsibility Assessment fee. Failing to pay these fees will result in a driver's license suspension.
