Getting caught drunk driving by authorities can often lead to multiple criminal charges. There are times when no one is harmed by drinking and driving, but other times there can be more serious consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol. In those cases, often a DWI charge is just the tip of the iceberg. As New York and other states continue to crack down on drivers who operate vehicles while they are intoxicated, it is likely the charges and penalties will continue to be heavily enforced.
One New York teen is facing multiple serious charges as a result of a crash he allegedly caused while drunk driving recently. He has been accused of hitting a taxi, killing its driver and then fleeing the accident. In addition to DWI, the young man's other charges include speeding, hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide.
The teen remains in police custody while charges are pending. As of now, his blood alcohol content at the time of the accident has not been reported. No details regarding any evidence of alcohol consumption that was collected at the scene or whether he was given a sobriety test have been released at this time either.
Criminal charges can add up quickly in drunk driving cases, particularly if someone is injured or killed as a result. If you have been accused of driving while intoxicated, it may be a good idea to consult a criminal defense attorney. They can help you to better understand the New York judicial system and your options in your particular case.
