Driver in Fatal Car Crash Sentenced to 6-Month License Suspension

Driving is considered a privilege in New York City and other cities across the U.S. When a driver commits multiple or serious traffic violations, they may face a suspended license as a consequence. Distracted driving, speeding and disobeying traffic signs and signals are types of violations that can lead to a driver’s license suspension.

A girl in New Jersey recently pled guilty to charges she did not yield to the right of way or stop, resulting in a fatal car accident last year. According to reports, the girl was driving with two of her high school classmates in the car when she crashed into a large pickup truck as she was attempting to make a left turn. She has not confirmed or denied, but authorities believe she may have been texting or talking on her cell phone, causing her distraction at the time the accident occurred. She was also charged with having an open alcoholic beverage in the vehicle, but blood alcohol content testing showed she was not under the influence at the time of the accident.

As a result of her guilty plea, the girl was sentenced to a six months driver’s license suspension. According to reports, the Department of Motor Vehicles had already issued a three-month suspension that she is currently serving out. The most recent suspension will run concurrently with the DMV’s suspension.

After a driver’s license suspension is served, there is often a process that motorists must go through in order to have their license reinstated. It may be helpful for anyone who has had his or her license suspended to consult with an experienced attorney. A lawyer can help guide you through the reinstatement process and answer any questions you may have.
