Man accused of speeding, causing fatal accident in Brooklyn

Exceeding the speed limit can be very dangerous. It is easy to lose control of a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, which can lead to an accident. If a driver is speeding and causes an accident, they could face much more serious consequences, especially if someone is injured or killed.

A man is alleged to have killed a couple, as well as the unborn child the woman was carrying, in an accident caused he caused while speeding and driving erratically. Witnesses reported that just prior to the fatal collision the man had been excessively speeding, they claimed he was traveling at almost twice the posted speed limit. For his part, the driver has suggested that the couple’s cab driver was to blame, claiming he failed to stop at a stop sign. He has maintained that he was not speeding when the accident occurred. It was not reported whether there was evidence he was exceeding the speed limit at the time of the accident.

Should he be found guilty, the man could face life in prison for the charges he is facing for his part in the accident. He has been charged with vehicular manslaughter for the deaths. It was not reported whether he will face any additional charges for the incident, he allegedly also fled the scene following the crash.

When accidents occur because of negligence, or alleged negligence, severe consequences can take the place of what may have been a minor violation. It can be important to speak with an attorney if you are facing criminal traffic charges. Legal counsel can help you to fully understand your charges, possible consequences and options.
