Sisters charged with DUI after cops witness both behind wheel

Readers in and around New York City are likely aware that there are laws which prohibit drinking and driving. Readers also likely know that, if you are suspected of driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, a field sobriety test or blood alcohol test will typically be administered to determine your impairment and, you could be arrested and/or charged with a criminal offense. What may come as a surprise, however, is that you can face charges even if you are not witnessed operating a motor vehicle, but are only found behind the wheel while the vehicle is running.

Recently, two sisters were arrested for drunk driving at the same traffic stop in Florida. According to reports, the women, ages 24 and 18, were placed under arrest after they attempted to trick authorities by trading seats before the office arrived at the car. The arresting officer reportedly saw the sisters switch spots, and, being they had both been in the driver's seat with the car running, had both of them perform a field sobriety test, which neither was able to pass.

Both women are now facing DUI charges as a result of the incident; however, it remains unknown to the public whether any additional testing was administered to determine whether their blood alcohol content levels were over the legal limit. It also was not reported whether both sisters had at some point operated the vehicle while intoxicated, nor was it detailed whether they plan to fight the charges.

It may be of benefit for anyone facing criminal drunk driving charges to obtain legal representation. An experienced attorney will not only look out for your interests, they will also be able to help ensure you fully understand all of your options and answer any questions you may have.
