Actor arrested for second DWI in three years

New York state DWI laws are stringent, especially in cases where a driver has had multiple offenses. Whether a person is charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired or driving under the influence, the consequences can be steep, long term and include anything from misdemeanor to felony charges. Laws can make it tough for people to recover from a DUI but there are options with the right help.

Celebrities often provide fodder for the news media and David Cassidy is one of the many recent topics in the news with his recent DWI arrest upstate near Albany. The 63-year old actor and childhood star of the former television show, “The Partridge Family” was arrested and found to have a blood alcohol content of .10. That is .02 over the New York legal limit.

Cassidy was charged with a felony DWI in this instance because of a prior DUI arrest in Florida three years ago. In that case, he was found with an open bourbon container in his car and also had recently taken Vicodin pills. His blood alcohol content was .14 at that time. The actor is currently out on a $2,500 bail from Rensselaer County Jail.

A successful defense against DUI, DWI or DWAI charges can be challenging. The impact of a DUI ranges from insurance to criminal records. There are many nuances to the state’s drunk driving laws and working with an experienced attorney can be the best way to get the right representation in such situations.
