After refusing testing, Odom enters not guilty plea to DUI

People arrested for driving under the influence sometimes can feel that it is hard to fight such a case and they may not be confident in their ability to receive a fair defense. However, it is the law in New York and our nation that every person should be guaranteed such a right, no matter what crime they are accused of. This includes people accused of driving while intoxicated.

Being stopped and ultimately cited and arrested for a DUI, DWI or DWAI can happen to anyone. Even celebrities are not immune from such charges. One well-known NBA player, Lamar Odom knows this and is testament to the right for a good defense. After being arrested in late August in Los Angeles and charged with a DUI, his attorney has worked to secure a hearing date earlier than originally planned. That hearing is scheduled for November 8.

For now, Odom has entered a plea of not guilty to the DUI charges against him. When stopped in Los Angeles, he refused to undergo testing for either drugs or alcohol at the scene. He was pulled over by law enforcement because he was allegedly driving in an erratic manner, creating a serpentine pattern. Once stopped, police then arrested him for drunk driving.

Stories like these truly can happen to any driver that gets behind the wheel of a car. It is important to remember that a charge is not a conviction and a defense is warranted. If you have been arrested for drunk driving, you may wish to consider a consultation with a DUI attorney to learn your options for a possible defense.
