Speeding is one of the most targeted actions by New York law enforcement as of late. The Vision Zero program and other campaigns are clearly out to reduce the speed of drivers on New York roads. Speeding tickets can carry with them hefty fines, points on a driver’s license and even a driver’s license suspension. Certainly safety is a priority for all New Yorkers but so too is the need for a traffic ticket defense when faced with serious charges.
A particular motorcycle driver is currently facing multiple charges including speeding. Upon being stopped at roughly 5:00 p.m. on a Friday evening, it was found that the 24-year old man was not legally licensed to drive a motorcycle. He was not wearing a helmet and had no automobile insurance. The motorcycle itself did not have any license plates and was not properly registered.
The motorcyclist’s speed was noted to be 110 miles per hour on the William Floyd Parkway in Shirley on Long Island. The legal maximum speed limit on that road is 45 miles per hour. A police officer saw the motorcycle speed by and eventually stopped the driver a mile and a half later. A citation for reckless driving was issued and an article reporting on the incident indicated other charges were included but no details were given. The driver spent a night in jail. An arraignment is scheduled in Central Islip at the First District Court but no date for this was noted in the news story.
Traffic charges can become serious and leave defendants unsure of how to proceed. Working with a lawyer who is experienced in New York traffic law can be one way that people can receive help with their defense processes.
