Reckless Motorcycle Group Cited for Numerous Violations

New York traffic laws are put into place to help keep the public safe while on the road. Law enforcement officials can issue citations or even arrest people in the event that the laws are not properly obeyed. Traffic violations can range from minor offenses, such as a single speeding ticket to more serious charges such as driving under the influence of alcohol or vehicular manslaughter. Penalties also range based upon the nature of the violation or charge.

Police from Suffolk recently wrote numerous citations for a group of ATV riders and motorcyclists on Long Island for a range of traffic crimes. After numerous citizen calls, police were dispatched and found a group of between 20 and 50 bikers driving recklessly on a Sunday afternoon. They arrested more than 30 motorcyclists and one driver of an all-terrain vehicle and they confiscated one of the motorcycles.

The traffic violations facing some of the members of the group include driving without a valid motorcycle license, DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, resisting arrest, unlawful fleeing of a police officer, criminal mischief and more. Witnesses observed some of the bikers swerving into oncoming traffic, passing cars on the right, speeding, running red lights and more.

A driver facing a ticket for even one of these offenses could be in need of assistance for his or her traffic ticket defense. If you are in such a situation, you may give some thought to consulting with a traffic law attorney to understand what your options may be.
