Study: Most drivers have felt road rage

People sometimes act like road rage is uncommon, something only really experienced by other drivers. The reality, though, is that it is incredibly common. Though not all situations lead to confrontations and arrests, of course, most people have felt road rage at one time or another.

That's according to a study that claimed over 50 percent of drivers have experienced it before. So, if you have, you are definitely not alone. If anything, those who have never felt angry behind the wheel are those who stand out from the crowd.

Why does it happen? There are many reasons. Road congestion is a big one. When traffic slows down and too many cars are crammed into the same space -- during that morning commute, for instance -- it's naturally stressful. Eventually, that stress builds up and makes it easier for someone to slip over the edge.

On top of that, safety concerns are very real. When someone cuts you off and almost hits you, they put your life in danger. Maybe they were being careless or impatient. That's what really sets you off. They were so careless not just about their own safety but also about yours. They didn't give you the respect you deserved. They took a chance that could have put you or a family member in the hospital, and you take serious offense to that type of behavior.

When road rage gets out of control, it can lead to traffic violations, tickets and accidents. It is important for those involved to know about all the legal defense options they have.
